Winners of ‘A’Saffa BBQ Challenge 4’ announced!

The ‘A’Saffa BBQ Challenge 4’, Oman’s most prestigious barbecue cooking competition, held on 19th January, 2018 - recently witnessed 50 families battle it out at the Civil Aviation Club. Due to the overwhelming response and participation, the competition was divided into two groups, with winners being declared from both the groups in equal numbers, in order so as to encourage participants. The perfect opportunity to showcase one’s barbecue culinary skills, and an appetizing family barbecue getaway; the winning teams at the competition were judged by Oman’s finest upcoming chefs Iffat Al Aufi, Haroun Al Balushi, and Shabu Thambi from NHI, who declared Malabar Adukkala (Team No – 14) as the winners, Naseemudeen (Team No – 9) as the 1st runners up and Nevin (Team No – 15) as the 2nd runners up from Group A; and BBQ Buddies (Team No – 33) as the winners, and Srijith. B Nair (Team No – 42) as the 1st runners up and Furkan (Team No – 37) as the 2nd runners up from Group B.
Three fully-dressed chicken were provided to each team by A’Saffa at the competition this year. For their convenience, participants were asked to bring their own barbecue sets, coal, fuel, skewers, spices and culinary ware. The families received points based on: Taste, Recipe Innovation, Recipe originality, Cooking Hygiene and Preparation, and Presentation. The event also witnessed a specially designed Atfal Club Kids Corner with an A’Saffa food spread, magic show, face-painting, games, music for kids; and traditional Omani performances and a whole lot of cooking fun for the adults. Sidhartha Lenka, Head of Marketing and Sales, A’Saffa Foods averred: “On behalf of the A’Saffa Foods family, my heartiest congratulations to the winning teams and a sincere thank you to everyone who participated and helped make it a success. Also, an extremely special thanks to all our judges from NHI, Chef Haroon, Chef …., Chef ….., for evaluating another intense competition this year.” He elaborated, “The 4th edition of the ‘A’Saffa BBQ Challenge’ was a day marked by family fun and competition, and possibly the best way to showcase our range of fresh, halal, healthy, tasty chickens. A’Saffa Foods have become synonymous with healthy eating habits and family fun; and by hosting this event, which is the first of its kind in the region annually, we aim to continue to reiterate this.
